Estilo Ibiza has visited Betrice´s workshop  to find out about her beginings in fashion as well as her opinion about the past and the future of Ibiza´s fashion. Beatriz has been very friendly and has revealed the clues of her success.

E.I.:  How and why did you decide to start in fashion?

My grandmother was a designer and she tought me everything I know. I believe creativity is written in my DNA, simply because I deeply enjoy it and  designs just flow out my hands.

E.I: What was your first impression about Ibiza when you arrived? What shocked you most about it?

It was the way of life, so different and calm. Here I feel I can express myself better than back in  cold Germany. I alway thought I should live here. And so it was. Everything happens easily.

I also met my husband here and he is a n exceptional person.

E.I: What was your vision of the Island´s fashion at that time?

It was a free and colourful fashion.

E.I: You have visited many countries and have also worked for great designers. What pushed you to create you own designs?

Right after I finished my studies I got a job working for fashion Magazines in Germany, Here we had to travel a lot and visit different countries in order to do photo shootings and visit the fairs. I also lived in Milan for a while, working for different designers, but eventually I realized that while been an stylist I also started with the urge to create again, as I used to do before working for others. It was at that time when I landed in Ibiza, and then  I decided to create my knitwear.

E.I: Who or what defines a person style? Do you believe Ibiza to be a place where trends are born? Why?

Indeed, I think Ibiza creates trends because the island atracts people from all over the world. There are more and more foreigners every day, and this fact creates an amazing culture mix in many ways.

E.I.:Why knitwear?

Because it was in my DNA, my grandmother tought me all the tricks of working with this kind of clothes. Moreover, this type of clothes have an special fall and touch. Not many designers in the world work with knitwear, so I decided to take this path. Fortunately my designs seem to be quite succesfull.

E.I: What are your goals in fashion?

I do not have grand goals in fashion, I just enjoy and live the moment. Our brand is working pretty well, and that makes me extremely happy.

E.I: Apart from a succesfull designer you are also mother of two girls. How do you see young people nowadays? Do you think they see fashion as a way of art or just a as a product

I have two daughters, they are 10 and 16 years old and they help me out in my business. They learn a lot about fashion, specialy that it is something artistic and creative. I always try to teach them all my knowledge.

E.I: Men are more concern about fashion nowadays. Why is it then, that only few designers make menswear?

I can only talk about my own experience. We used to have menswear, but sales decreased year after year due to their lack of habit for boutique shopping. Although few men do buy in this type of shops, the majority does not, therefore, it is not worth making clothes for such a short demand. Anyway, I still believe men clothing  is a challengue.

E.I: We know you depply love the Islands and that´s  the reason  why we will dare asking you quite an embarassing question. What is the most negative aspect of Ibiza?

Drugs use

E.I.: You love nature and healthy lifestyle, and are an environment friendly person deeply concerned about it all. On the other hand, you know fashion world is an ephemeral one, so many people see it as an extremly consumist way of life against their values. What would you tell to people who think this way?

Yes, I love the natural lifestyle and I think thas it’s very important to respect the environement I try to do the atemporal designers in my clothes.

E.I.: How do you see future Ibiza design?

If you create from your heart you can be sure you will success. You must forget what others do and create whatever comes out of yourself and what you are good at.
